Matriculation: Work hard to achieve dream,  UNIBEN VC tasks fresh students

Lagos, Sept. 24, 2021 (NAN) Prof. Lilian Salami, Vice Chancellor, University of Benin (UNIBEN), has urged fresh students of the Institution in affiliation with the Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka, to work assiduously to achieve their dreams.

Salami spoke through Prof. Kingsley Omorogiuwa, Chairman, Affiliate Supervisory Committee and Chairman, UNIBEN Admission Board.

She gave the advice on Friday in Lagos at the swearing in of 250 new students into various degree programmes of UNIBEN for 2020/2021 academic session held in FCT (Technical), Akoka, Lagos.

“You are lucky to be among the 250 persons who scaled through the selection processes. Note that this ceremony for which we are all gathered here today is an integral part of your studentship and the beginning of your educational career.

“I, therefore, implore you to be determined, diligent and resilient in the acquisition of your various academic endeavour, which is your primary aim of coming to school, be good ambassadors of your families and institution.

”Therefore, the need for you all to be determined and work assiduously in order to achieve individual dream,” she admonished.

The vice chancellor, who posited that UNIBEN coined its acronym as ‘UNIBEST’, noted that the institution had zero tolerance for any nefarious act.

She added that management of the institution would not hesitate to apply appropriate sanction against offenders.

Salami also emphasised that obedience to rules and regulations of the institution was non negotiable.

“I encourage you to be decent, shun evil vices like cultism, drug abuse, prostitution, examination malpractices and other immoral activities that may mar your sojourn,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Dr Wahab Azeez, Provost of the FCE (Technical), urged the fresh students made up of 137 into the 100 level and 113 in Direct Entry, to endeavour to acquire the Bachelor of Arts, Degree in Education in they entered for.

Azeez assured them of quality education.

According to him, staff of the institution are exposed to best practices locally and internationally.

He noted that the university, in collaboration with the college have the focus, commitment, philosophy and value, to provide qualitative science, vocational and technical education.

“You all have to take advantage of greatest benefits from the resources available in the college to prepare yourself for the task ahead, note that you will in turn impact the knowledge to the larger society.

“And to achieve this, it is pertinent that you pay particular attention to academic excellence, set high academic and moral standard for yourselves and above all be focused.

“You are therefore required to cultivate the habit of attending lectures regularly, be of good conduct, interact with your fellow students and staff of the college,” he added.

The provost encouraged the students to combine both academics and moral excellence all through their stay in the college in the pursuit of their career.
