Matawalle meets Buhari, says Zamfara banditry will end soon

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara has updated President Muhammadu Buhari on current security developments in his state.

Addressing House correspondents after the meeting, the governor assured that the security challenges facing the state would soon be over after the assurances he received from the president.

According to him, new measures will be applied to find a lasting solution to the problem of insecurity that afflicts the State.

He said: “Whenever I start an action, I usually report to the president and have been receiving support from him.

“So now I came up with another solution and reported it to you, but I can’t disclose the details because details about security issues are not made public.

“But I assure the people of Zamfara that you will see changes very soon because the president is committed to finding a solution to this problem of insecurity and I assure my people that we have everything we need to fight these people.

“The president has motivated me and when I return to Zamfara, I assure you, people will see changes between now and Wednesday because I know what we discussed and I know what is going to happen within this period.

“And my people will be happy with the action that the Federal Government is going to take very soon on this issue of insecurity.”

According to the governor, the state government is doing everything possible to unravel those who collaborate with bandits and other criminals to cause chaos in the state.

“They have collaborators and we are working hard to catch those collaborators and the law is going to take its course with those who are pushing them to do so and we are going to catch them and I assure you that they are going to catch them and we are going to treat them accordingly” , he underlined.

Regarding the recent murders in the state, where some insinuate that more than 200 people were murdered, the governor emphasized that no more than 58 people were murdered.

“I have already clarified things about the figures. Because I’ve seen some reports that 200 people, 300 people, 500 people were killed.

“But I myself went to the community with the security agencies. We first went to Bukuyyum and confirmed from the Emir that only 36 people were killed and two communities were razed by these bandits.

“And when we went to Anka, we met the Emir, the moment we met him, and he gave us a list of 22 people who were killed, making a total of 58 people killed.

“But as I have been saying, there are some political crooks who have been spreading lies, rumors so that they can make some political gains.

“But in reality there are 58 people who have died. But some people will just go on social media and write down some figures and I have informed Mr. President of some people who think that with this insecurity they can achieve something.

“I wonder how people will just write numbers without having genuine information from those communities.

“Someone will call the media staff and tell them that it looks like so many people have died in that location,” he said.
