Bindawa (Katsina), Jan. 29, 2019 (NNN) Katsina State government says it is committed to boosting food production through massive support to irrigation farming in the state.
Gov. Aminu Masari stated this during his re-election campaign rally in Bindawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Masari said that his administration would continue to encourage irrigation farming that would give employment to youths and guarantee food security in the state.
“We will give massive support to the 20 irrigation sites to discourage the rural to urban migration among the youths.
“We have the Jibia, Zobe, Dabiran, Ajiwa, Safke, Dallaje, Malumfashi, Eka, Kafin-Soli and Dutsi Dams.
“We also have dams in Mairuwa, Jeri, Danja, Malumfashi, Dutsinma, Gwarjo, Kankia, Kusada and Wadata in Faskari local government areas,” he said.
The governor said that the state government had transferred many agricultural staff from local government service to serve as extension workers under the state government.
“Several staff under the agric department in the 34 local governments have been transferred to the state Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KATARDA) to serve as extension workers in the state.
“We want them to assist our farmers with good advices that will guarantee food production,” he said.
The governor said that the time for agricultural staff to only work only during rainy season had gone.
Masari called on women and youths to embrace both dry and rainy season farming to avoid redundancy in the state.
He appealed to rural dwellers to vote APC in order to continue enjoying dividend of democracy. (NNN)
