Aiyedatiwa made the remark at the quarterly interactive meeting of the local government boundary committees in the southern senatorial district of the state held at the Okitipupa Local Government Secretariat, Okitipupa on Thursday.

The meeting had in attendance traditional leaders, vice chairmen of local governments in the southern senatorial district and other stakeholders.

The deputy governor said the purpose of the meeting was to intimate members of the local government boundary committees of their statutory functions to further bring governance closer to people at the grassroots.

Ayedatiwa, who is the Chairman of the State Boundary Commission, said the meeting would brainstorm on ways to resolve internal boundary disputes in the state.

Represented by the Secretary, State Boundary Commission, Mr Abiodun Owolabi, the deputy governor said the committee would reduce the burden of boundary crisis at the state level.

He emphasised that similar meeting would be held in other senatorial districts soon.

“By third quarter of year 2021, as Chairman, Ondo State Boundary Commission, I have approved the inauguration of local government boundary committees across the 18 council areas.

“This is to reduce the burdens of boundary disputes at the state level and a means of bringing governance closer to the people at the grassroots.

“Furtherance to the sustainability of the relative peace in Ondo State, by the first quarter of this calendar year, I approved the quarterly visits to the local government boundary committees across the three senatorial districts of the state,” he said.

According to him, the programme is to intimate members of their statutory functions and to provide an interface between stakeholders in disputes and government agencies in the state.

The Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Mr Igbekele Akinrinwa, said the meeting served as an eye opener to further find ways boundary disputes could be resolved amicably in the state.

While giving their reports, Vice Chairmen of Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Ile , Odigbo, Okitipupa and Irele Local Governments, commended Akeredolu’s administration and sought the support of government in discharging their duties effectively.

The Olu of Igbobini in Ese-Odo Local Government, Oba Dele Raphael, advised that the interactive meeting should be sustained to broker peace amongst border communities in the southern senatorial district.
