Manchester, England — Manchester United continues to struggle in the Premier League as they faced off against Brentford on May 4, 2025, suffering a narrow defeat of 4-3.
Despite their recent victory against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League semifinals, United’s performance on the domestic front has been disappointing. The team has now lost three out of their last four matches and has gone six games without a win.
United took an early lead in the match with a goal from Mason Mount in the 14th minute, but this advantage was quickly erased. An own goal by Luke Shaw in the 27th minute turned the tide, followed by a goal from Kevin Schade just six minutes later at the 33rd minute, putting Brentford ahead 2-1.
Brentford continued their offensive onslaught, with Schade scoring again in the 70th minute to extend their lead to 3-1, and Yoane Wissa capped off the scoring with a goal in the 74th minute, assisted by Michael Kayode.
In a desperate attempt to close the gap, United found the net again with Alejandro Garnacho scoring in the 82nd minute and Amad Diallo adding a last-minute goal in stoppage time at 95 minutes. However, it wasn’t enough to salvage any points from the match.
The loss leaves United sitting in a precarious position at 14th in the Premier League standings, level on points with Everton at just 39.
Meanwhile, Newcastle managed to secure a late 1-1 draw against Wolves, with their own standout performances. A goal from Amin Sarr in the 28th minute for Newcastle was matched by a penalty converted by Jarrod Bowen in the 89th minute for Wolves.
Even the Spurs, who have been successful in the Europa League, are struggling in the Premier League. The season’s 35th matchday continued with a key encounter set to happen at 17:30, featuring Manchester City, the recently crowned English champions.
