1 A 24-year-old man, Joshua Paul, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged shop breaking and stealing.

2 The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a three-count charge of shop breaking, stealing and malicious damage.

3 The prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the Court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on June 25, at about 04:30 a.m in Ado-Ekiti.

4 Akinwale alleged that the defendant and others at large broke into the shop of one Okonta Henry.

5 He alleged that the defendant and his fleeing accomplices stole phones worth N5 million and N64,500 cash belonging to the complainant.

6 He also alleged that the defendant and his accomplices maliciously damaged one iron door valued at N150,000 belonging to the complainant.

7 According to him, the offences contravene Sections 421, 302(a) and 354 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

8 The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

9 The Chief Magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

10 He adjourned the case until Aug. 17, for hearing. (
