A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday remanded a 20-year-old man who pleaded guilty to theft of Techno phone worth N6,000 and bathroom slippers worth N500.
Chief Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere, ordered that Idris Lawal, should be kept at the Ikoyi Prisons, Lagos State, pending review of the facts of the case and sentencing.
Oghere adjourned the case until March 6.
Lawal was charged with breaking and entering and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 28 at 4.30 a.m. at No. 148, Murtala Mohammed Way, Ebute-meta area of Lagos.
Olaluwoye said that the defendant stole a Techno phone valued at N6,000 belonging to Mr Yusuf Bashiru and bathroom slippers valued at N500 belonging to Mr Rabiu Musa.
The prosecutor added that the defendant broke into the house through the back door and made away with the phone that was charging in the kitchen and the slippers.
“It was a neighbour that heard the noise of the defendant breaking the padlock on the kitchen door that raised an alarm.
“The phone and the slippers were however, recovered from him on his arrest.
“My Lord, this is not the first time the defendant is being arrested for theft.The complainants of the previous case withdrew their complaints, so he was released,’’ she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NNN) reports that the alleged offences contravene Sections 308 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised). (NNN)
