Leeds Shoved Closer to Relegation After Must-Win Match Ends in Defeat
Leeds United was pushed further towards relegation from the Premier League after the ‘must-win’ match against West Ham ended in a 3-1 defeat. The defeat has put Sam Allardyce’s rescue mission in crisis point, with his side needing to win their next game against Tottenham and hope that Bournemouth can do them a favour at Everton. If Leicester beats Newcastle, Leeds will start the final day second from the bottom.
Leeds got off to a great start with Rodrigo volleying them into an early lead, but West Ham made an equaliser with Declan Rice’s 15th goal in claret and blue. They later scored two more goals from Jarrod Bowen and Manuel Lanzini, leaving Leeds in deep trouble.
Leeds lost their key player Patrick Bamford due to injury. Hammers picked up the pace and equalised in the 32nd minute with a delightful goal from Rice. West Ham won the match with Bowen’s 12th goal of the season and a late strike from Lanzini.
Allardyce arrived at Elland Road as a last-ditch appointment with four games to go, but his first three matches have provided just two points. The club has one final chance to stay in the Premier League when they play against Tottenham next weekend.
In summary, it is now going to be an uphill task for Leeds United to retain their status in the Premier League after suffering a defeat in a must-win game.
