The commissioner said that 1,036 schools benefited from the projects in 20 local government areas of the state.

“We have worked on 1,449 projects and these include; school buildings, renovations, provision of furniture, laboratories and equipment.

“And the idea behind these projects is to make schools across the state look good and further create a conducive learning environment for both students and teachers,” he said.

Ibeju Lekki

Adefisayo pointed out that the construction of schools “is something continuous; we have just opened the Elemoro school with athletics in Ibeju Lekki and we are not relaxing because there is still a lot to do”.

Adefisayo said the state currently has no less than 16,000 teachers and government approval has been given to always replace retired teachers in secondary schools, particularly in key subjects.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu

“Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, upon taking office, gave his approval to recruit and replace retired teachers at all levels, so that while they retire, we also continue to replace,” he explained.

The commissioner said that Sanwo-Olu awarded 12 cars to outstanding teachers to reward excellence in state teaching service.

Eko Excel

He added that more than 15,000 teachers across the state had been trained through Eko Excel to improve the ability to provide quality education to students.

Eko Excel

reports that Eko Excel (Excellence in Early Childhood Education and Learning) is an education reform program set to develop more highly qualified teachers.

It includes training, supporting, and motivating existing public school teachers to increase their ability to help children learn in a positive environment.

The commissioner identified neglect and helicopter parenting as contributing factors to the prevalence of cultism and bullying among students.

Adefisayo said that helicopter parenting had made some students not strong enough to endure some activities around them, while careless parenting had made some students become cultists.

According to her, curbing cultism and bullying among students will not be just talking to them alone, but through multidimensional approaches.

“Good teaching also helps because when students are engaged in school, sometimes they don’t want trouble.

“One thing we’ve considered again is expanding the academic curriculum, so there’s something for everyone,” he said.

Adefisayo said there was a need to find the dichotomy between just the biology of having children and the spiritual part of raising children.

She said that the state government was also addressing the spiritual part of religious knowledge and compulsory Christian religious knowledge in primary schools.

The commissioner said the state government was building sports centers across the state, which would help engage students and keep them away from cultism and bullying.
