Lagos State Government Unveils 126 New Classrooms Across Six Educational Districts
The Lagos State Government has announced the completion of 126 new classrooms across all six educational districts in the state. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside his representatives, unveiled some of these classrooms during a two-day exercise to commission the new infrastructure built by the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools.
The unveiling ceremony took place at Elepe Community Junior High School, Ikorodu, where 18 blocks of classrooms were commissioned. While speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu said that the exercise was part of his government’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for learning and improving teaching in public schools. The governor also noted that the infrastructures include classrooms, laboratories, principal and Vice-Principal en-suite offices, staff rooms, sickbays, a store, and 36 cubicle toilets for male and female students.
The newly built facilities will address the challenges and inadequacy of existing infrastructure and put the education sector to a global standard for effective learning and teaching. According to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s representative, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Samuel Egube, the state government has prioritized education and is working to provide the necessary resources to support the sector.
During the commissioning exercises, Governor Sanwo-Olu was represented by various commissioners including the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Commissioner for Youth and Sport, and the Commissioner of Agriculture. They encouraged students and teachers to take ownership of the projects so as to ensure their sustainability and longevity.
The Chairman of the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools, Mr Hakeem Smith, represented by a member, Mr Adebanjo Olusegun, recalled other iconic projects completed by the administration, including Elemoro Community Junior Secondary School in Ibeju-Lekki, Vetland Junior Grammar School in Agege, and Ogombo Community Junior High School in Ajah. He highlighted that the government has constructed a total of 18 classrooms prototype block in six schools, as well as a 12-classroom block.
The unveiling of the new classrooms at Alimosho Junior Grammar School, Alimosho, was also part of the activities to celebrate the inauguration of the new administration on May 29, 2023. The Lagos State Government remains committed to transforming the education sector and providing a conducive environment for learning that meets international standards.
