Lagos-Abeokuta expressway: TRACE cautions truck drivers against speeding

By Ige Adekunle

Ogun State’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has warned truck drivers against speeding to stem the incessant cases of accidents on the Lagos-Abeokuta highway.

Ms Temitope Oseni, the commander of TRACE’s Owode-Ijako unit, gave the warning in an interview with the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) on Monday in Ota, Ogun.

Oseni stressed the need for truck drivers to reduce their speed and strictly adhere to 30 km / h to avoid accidents.

She claimed that some of the truck crashes that killed the highway on the freeway were mainly caused by drivers driving at excessive speeds.

We call on them to reduce their speed to the strict minimum and to refrain from any act that could endanger the lives of other road users.

“In addition, truck drivers should beware of reckless driving and speeding which determines the severity of an accident,” she said.

Oseni, however, urged drivers to stop using intoxicating substances that could negatively influence their decision to drive.

She urged pedestrians crossing the roads around the Owode-Ijako axis to be careful so that they are not run over by vehicles.

The unit commander called on motorists to take alternative routes via Navy Command to Sango-Ota under the bridge to connect the Owode-Ijako axis, due to ongoing rehabilitation work on the Old Toll-Gate axis for patience.

According to her, cooperation with traffic agencies will help them reduce traffic congestion in the region. (NAA)
