Rore community in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara on Wednesday donated office accommodation to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Mr Joel Adeniran, the President of Rore Development Association, said the donation was part of the community ‘s corporate social responsibility toward boosting security in the area.
The Nigeria News Agency reports that the community also donated a new Bajaj motorcycle to aid effective security patrol.
Adeniran said the office acomodation worth N3 million was also aimed at compelementing government’s efforts in the collective fight against crime and criminality.
A total sum of N3 million has so far been expended on this building which houses three offices, an investigating room, an artilery and two cells.
It is therefore our hope and desire that this modest effort and contributions will go a long way to enhance the security and well-being of our people,” Adeniran said.
He cited other executed self help projects in the community included electrification initiative and building of primary healthcare centre.
Others were building of primary and secondary schools as well as constant maintenance of all the roads in the town.
The Onirore of Rore,Oba Ezekiel Oyewo, in his remarks, described the completion and handing – over of the project as a big relief to the people of the community.
With this security post in place we can now be rest assured of adequate security.
Rore community as a major link to other communities is always a beehive of activities which had continued to attract criminals.
We are appealing to the Commandant of NSCDC to ensure that adequate personnel are posted to man the new outpost to ward off criminals from the community,” Oyewo said.
Also speaking, Mr Bello Age, the Commandant, NSCDC, Kwara Command, described security as a collective responsibility of stakeholders to achieve the desired objectives.
Age said goverment alone could not shoulder the enormous demands and needs of the communities, adding there was the need for public private partnership.
“We are very grateful for this singular honour done to the command and we will surely reciprocate with more commitment and dedication to duty,” he said.
