Kano, Nigeria – Former governor of Kano State and National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has strongly criticized opposition politicians who recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He deemed their actions the worst political sin against the people on Friday evening during a gathering at his Miller Road residence.
Kwankwaso’s remarks came after he received supporters from Takai Local Government who chose to remain with the NNPP instead of following Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, their representative in the National Assembly, to the APC. Kawu, alongside several other lawmakers from Kano and Bauchi states, left the NNPP for the APC, prompting Kwankwaso’s remarks on the alleged betrayal.
“Kano South is a lesson,” Kwankwaso stated. “Voters rejected superghetti, N200, and Atamfa but showed patience to vote for the NNPP.” He lamented that the defectors had abandoned the very party that supported them in their electoral journey, turning their backs on the masses they promised to serve. “There is no worse political sin than leaving the party that gave you opportunity and support. This is the highest level of betrayal,” he emphasized.
Kwankwaso warned the youth to stay cautious of politicians who prioritize their personal gains over the welfare of the public. He acknowledged and appreciated the NNPP members who chose to remain loyal to the party, asserting that those who betrayed the Kwankwasiyya Movement would ultimately regret their decisions.
<p“Fighting Kwankwasiyya is not an easy task; they will not realize it until they engage in the struggle,” he remarked. He welcomed those who’ve returned to the party and reaffirmed that the NNPP would treat them fairly.
Additionally, the Kano State NNPP Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, expressed gratitude to the party members for their loyalty and vowed that the party would ensure justice for all returning members. The event saw attendance from notable party leaders, including Senator Rufai Sani Hanga representing Kano Central, former Commissioner for Religious Affairs Falali, and Takai LG Chairman Ibrahim Faruruwa.
