Mr. Tinubu said this when answering questions from House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Abuja Presidential Village on Monday.
He said: “I have never seen where it is written in the rule book in any country that a kingmaker cannot be a king unless he commits murder. I want to pursue my ambition without the title of kingmaker.
The APC stalwart said he was at the presidential villa to formally inform the president of his desire to run for president in 2023.
”I can categorically say yes! I have informed the president of my intention, but have not yet informed the Nigerians.
”I keep consulting and I have no problem in consulting and I have not put a limitation parameter in the scope of the query.
“Soon you will hear what you want to hear all you want to hear, a categorical statement; he has obtained that truth from me that I have informed the president of my ambition and he does not expect more answers than that ”,
When asked how the president responded to his statement, Tinubu said the president did not ask him to dismiss his political ambition.
“He is a Democrat. He didn’t ask me to stop, he didn’t ask me not to try and pursue my ambition. It is a lifelong ambition. It is running a democratic dispensation and must embrace the principles, values and virtues of democracy, ”he said.
On the alleged ambition of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi and other politicians who foster similar presidential ambitions with him in the APC, Tinubu said he would not talk about individuals.
“I don’t want to talk about individuals now, I must talk about myself. I have the confidence, vision and ability to build on the president and improve Nigeria. I have done it with commitment and productive zeal in the state of Lagos.
“You have seen that experience and that ability to turn things around and we are doing that too. The confusion and drift of the past in PDP is being corrected as we are doing today. Going back to the data of how many barrels of oil we were producing when we assumed and what we have today.
“Now you see an excellent infrastructure. Let’s think back and be intellectually inquisitive about the past and present, as well as what the future holds for Nigeria, ”he added.
On the party’s much-talked about national convention, Tinubu assured party supporters that the convention would go ahead as planned.
