KAROTA sacks officer who caused traffic gridlock in Kano

Kano‘s National Roads and Traffic Agency, KAROTA, fired one of its officers, Road Traffic Assistant, RTA II, Jamilu Gambo, for alleged unprofessional driving.

This is contained in a statement to reporters by the agency’s public relations manager, Nabilusi Abubakar, on Thursday in Kano.

According to the statement, the dismissal followed Gambo’s driving to his duty station where he allegedly destroyed the tires on a trailer following an argument between him and the driver of the trailer.

“This development has led to the closure of the Kano-Hadejia road by other trailer drivers in solidarity with their concerned member, which has caused untold hardship for commuters and other drivers using this road,” he said. he declares.

The statement added that the dismissal took place after an emergency meeting with the state police commissioner, during which it was unanimously agreed that the officer concerned be relieved of his duties.

According to the statement, KAROTA Managing Director Baffa Dan’agundi congratulated the National Association of Road Transport Owners, NARTO, Kano Branch, for their prompt response to the incident.

“NARTO saved the staff member from mob action which would have resulted in his death,” he said.

Mr. Dan’agundi would also have congratulated the police for their role and assured that anyone missing from their guard post would not be spared.

He therefore apologized to the general public for the delay in travel as a result of the incident.

The statement added that the agency turned the sacked officer over to the police for further investigation and ordered him to pay for the damage to the driver’s vehicle.
