The Junior Avengers win the Immy Mudoola Cup

I was impressed with the tournament as it will encourage many more young girls to join rugby

KAMPALA, Uganda, October 14, 2021 / APO Group / –

Junior Avengers emerged on Saturday as the winner of the Immy Mudoola Cup which was held in honor of Immy Mudoola who played a big role in the development of women’s rugby in Uganda.

The Immy Mudoola Cup is an annual Girls’ Development Cup that brings together girls of all age / female groups to play and celebrate the growth and development of women’s rugby. The first edition of this year featured the U20 women’s category only to serve as a launch.

The cup is in honor of Ms. Immy Mudoola for her excellent contribution to women’s rugby. (both senior and junior women’s teams) Ms Mudoola also served on the former executive committee of the Ugandan Women’s Rugby Association as Vice-President at its inception and was the originator of the training and the growth of some women’s clubs / teams. She hosted the Thunderbirds for a fully funded camp in Iganga ahead of crucial fixtures like the Brown University game against the Thunderbirds.

The Immy Mudoola Cup will also help age class players prepare for a structured transition from growing young players to a smooth journey preparing them for national team and senior club competitions. This Annual Cup has been used as a tool to encourage senior players to engage with the upcoming age group / players and mentor them to be the best players.

“I was impressed with the tournament because it will encourage a lot more young girls to join rugby. I liked it and I appreciate the Uganda Rugby Union for the platform for young girls to show their talent .”- Immy Mudoola

Quote from Beatrice Atim, responsible for the development of women’s rugby.

The first edition of the Immy Mudoola Cup was a success because the young girls showed a great rugby spirit. We have registered 5 teams that have participated in this tournament and we are confident that more teams will come on board. There is a need to recognize our U20s by giving them more playing time. This will help retain, increase the number and improve the quality of play among young girls.
