Jubilation as FHA hands over FESTAC mechanic village to artisans

Senator Gbenga Ashafa, chief executive of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), on Thursday handed over the site of the six-acre mechanic’s village / market in the town of FESTAC to artisans.

Speaking at the handover ceremony at the new 6th Avenue site, FESTAC City, Ashafa said the event was in line with her promise to restore FESTAC City to lost glory.

The Nigerian News Agency reports that Ashafa was represented by Mr. Akintola Olagbemiro, Southwest Zone Director of the FHA, during the handover of the site to the Nigerian Association of Automotive Technicians (NATA).

He expressed his joy at the completion of the FHA’s age-old plan to relocate mechanics to a comfortable permanent location.

“Let me quickly add that the place of mechanics, technicians and craftsmen cannot be underestimated in any society. Their overall importance in any economy is not negligible due to the essential nature of their trade.

“The value chain that they add to the economy is quite huge, because of the many jobs and jobs they create through the provision of services.

“At FHA, we’ll do everything we can to make sure you are comfortable, relevant and organized,” he said.

He urged the leaders of NATA, a branch of FESTAC, to ensure orderly business premises and collaboration with all levels of government and other stakeholders for peaceful coexistence.

“With today’s success, it has been officially declared illegal for any auto mechanic to operate in any other part of FESTAC Town.

“We also implore the direction of auto mechanics / technicians to help the relevant authorities concerned with the safety and sanitation of the city of FESTAC, by obliging all your members to avail themselves of this facility,” he said. .

Ashafa pledged continued FHA collaboration with artisans and other stakeholders and thanked the FESTAC Town Residents Association, security agencies and other stakeholders for their patience.

He said the FHA would liaise with Amuwo Odofin’s local government and other stakeholders to reclaim the right-of-way.

Ashafa added that FHA surveyors had taken site measurements for the placement of beacons on the new site.

Amuwo Odofin Local Government President (AOLG) Mr. Valentine Buraimoh said the move would bring further development, not only to the city of FESTAC, but to the whole community.

Buraimoh, however, noted that it was necessary to hold a stakeholder meeting to determine how the allocated space could be maximized.

“We need to get ideas and suggestions on how best to use the space that is given to us,” he said.

reports that the NATA members, led by the outgoing chairman of the local government area of ​​Amuwo Odofin (AOLG), Mr. Ayodele Adewale, marched happily towards the venue to take possession of the facility.

Adewale told reporters he was delighted his tenure’s efforts to ensure artisans and traders take ownership of the site assigned to them in the original FESTAC town master plan has become a reality.

NATA President Yunusa Elekolomo said: “I am happy that at last this site which rightly belongs to us has been given to us today.

“Since the 70s, we have suffered a lot of encroachments on this earth, we have suffered too much, I will say that today that we take possession of it is my best day,” he said.

Earlier, the President of the Association of Residents of the City of FESTAC (FTRA), Mr. Shola Fakorede, said that a sufficient awareness and awareness campaign had been carried out for residents and artisans to buy into the project. that had become a reality.
