Is Katy Perry Leaving American Idol? Singer Feels Misrepresented by Show
Katy Perry has been a judge on American Idol for the past six seasons, but it seems her time on the show may be coming to an end. According to a report by Page Six, Perry “feels misrepresented by the show” and believes she has been repeatedly “thrown under the bus by producers”.
The outlet reported that Perry has been criticized multiple times in the last few months for comments she has made to contestants. The criticism reached a peak in March when Perry made a joke about mother-of-three Sara Beth Liebe “laying on the table too much”. Liebe criticised Perry’s comments as “hurtful” in a TikTok video following her audition.
The controversies continued in April when Perry was booed by the audience after she criticised contestant Nutsa Buzaladze’s outfit. She later said that she would like to see more heart in the performances.
While the criticism may be getting to Perry, a source told Page Six that the singer “isn’t fazed by the backlash”. The insider said that Perry has a unique sense of humour that may not always translate well on camera but that she has “never had any ill intent”.
Perry and fellow judge Lionel Richie recently performed at King Charles’ Coronation concert in Windsor, and Perry attended the ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London a day prior. Whether Perry will be back for another season of American Idol, however, remains to be seen.
