Iran launches 1st extra-heavy crude refinery

The first phase of the extraheavy crude refinery was inaugurated by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on the southern island of Qeshm on Friday, Iranian student news agency ISNA reported.

The complex, which was Iran’s first extra-heavy crude refinery, will promote the export of by-products of crude refining, such as bitumen, according to the report.

According to the official IRNA news agency, Gholamhossein Ramezanpour, an energy official, said on Thursday that the operation of this refinery will produce 35,000 barrels per day of high-quality bitumen.

Euro 2005 standards and environmental issues were taken into account in the refinery’s production, which would help the refinery’s exports, Ramezanpour said.

With the exploitation of this productive unit, 400 people would be directly employed and more than 1,000 people would be indirectly involved in related job opportunities.
