IPOB Declare Holiday May 30, Sit-at-Home to Honour Biafran Heroes!

Enugu, Nigeria — The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) don announce say una go sit-at-home for May 30, 2025. Dis lockdown go happen across the South-East and parts of South-South to honour Biafran heroes wey die for 1967-1970 Civil War. For dis day, all movement — by road, air, and sea — go dey banned from 6 am to 6 pm, as IPOB talk say no human activity suppose occur within wetin dem call ‘Biafran territory.’

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, wey be spokesman for Anambra State Police Command, don react sharply, assuring residents of adequate security to enable dem carry on with their normal life without fear. He talk say, ‘We no dey aware of the lockdown order, but we go make sure say residents dey safe to conduct their lawful business without any fear of harassment.’

Emma Powerful, wey be IPOB spokesperson, talk say dem go hold memorial lectures for Nigeria and abroad throughout May to honour the fallen heroes. Dem also dey expect all IPOB members wey dey outside Nigeria to organize demonstrations to protest the detention of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

According to him, dis May 30 observance go mean say schools, markets, churches, mosques, and all public gatherings go cease operation. He stress say dis day na for families to reflect on the events and losses during the Biafran War. ‘Dis holiday na annual memorial day and the observance gats be total to pay tribute to our heroes and heroines,’ Powerful declare.

Powerful add say, ‘Biafrans wey dey for Biafra land gatz observe dis total lockdown to honour those wey die during the war. We dey urge every Biafran and supporters of freedom to comply with dis directive. No schools, community meetings, or religious services go happen. All families gatz stay indoor, reflect on the genocide wey happen from 1967 to 1970, and look at the ongoing marginalization wey Ndigbo dey face in Nigeria.’

He also mention say IPOB don inform the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to adjust the May/June Senior Secondary School Examination schedule for the region to fit with the sit-at-home order. Messages don also go out to state governors for South-East and South-South regions to notify dem about the sit-at-home plan.

Dey request say Biafrans in the diaspora gatz hold town hall meetings or public demonstrations to show solidarity and demand the restoration of Biafra. ‘IPOB go pay tribute to all fallen heroes, including our eternal leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Gen. Philip Efiong, Chief Dr. Frank Opigo, Commander Ikonso, and many others wey stand against the genocide wey Nigerian and British forces commit against our people,’ him say.

According to Powerful, only essential service providers — like ambulance personnel, doctors, nurses, firefighters, journalists, and NUPENG members — go dey exempted from the restrictions. ‘We advise everybody to remain indoors for May 30 to avoid any clash or stray bullets from security operatives. All transporters gatz stay off the roads,’ he warn.
