Introducing Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s Incoming First Lady
On May 25th, Nigeria will swear in a new president, Bola Tinubu, who is replacing incumbent Muhammadu Buhari.


Along with the new president, his wife Oluremi Tinubu will become the country’s First Lady. Oluremi is a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, and a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

She served as the First Lady of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, and is a current Senator representing the Lagos Central Senatorial District at the Nigerian National Assembly.

Born in 1960, Remi is the youngest among 12 children and grew up in Ogun State.
She holds a B.Sc in Education from the University of Ife and is a published author of “The Journey of Grace- My Faith Walk”.
Tinubu is also the founder of New Era Foundation, a center for comprehensive child development, as well as raising public awareness on environmental health and community service.
Remi and the president-elect are the parents of four children, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, Oluwasey Tinubu, Abibat Tinubu, and the late Jide Tinubu.
Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress party (APC) urged the opposition to accept defeat and move on peacefully.
The APC candidate secured 37% of the vote; Atiku Abubakar (29%) and Peter Obi (25%) trailed behind.
The president-elect thanked his supporters and issued a message of reconciliation to his political adversaries, urging everyone to ”team up together” since ”it is the only nation we have.’
The election of Remi’s husband set the stage for a new first lady to step onto the presidency of Nigeria, and to play a key role in the country’s future.
