The governor’s wife made the appeal in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday while receiving members of SASCARE Military Widow Network Foundation as part of activities marking Year 2022 International Widows Day.

Fayemi urged widows, most especially wives of deceased military officers to be hardworking and engaged in ventures that could make them self-reliant.

The governor’s wife said that self-reliant ventures would enable them to secure the future of their children.

She noted that a legal framework had been put in place to protect the rights of widows in Ekiti.

The Wife of Ekiti Governor-Elect, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, gave an assurance that the office of the first Lady would continue to give priority to welfare of widows of the fallen heroes.

She advised the widows to be hardworking in their daily businesses so as to be self-reliant.

The Founder, SASCARE Foundation, Mr Akin Rotimi, expressed regret that many widows of military and police officers were faced with myriad of socio-cultural challenges which hindered them from being able to sustain their immediate families.

The Matron of the SASCARE, Mrs Toyosi Omope, called on well-meaning Nigerians to always assist and support widows no matter how little it could be.

The President, SASCARE Military Widow Network, Mrs Alice Ogundipe, appreciated the state government for its assistance to their members, urging the state government to continue in that direction. (
