International partners call for credible House of the People elections

We encourage delegates and candidates who wish to present electoral complaints to do so through the legal mechanisms established for this purpose.

MOGADISHU, Somalia, November 26, 2021 / APO Group / –

International partners * call for the completion of inclusive and credible elections to the House of the People that are acceptable to all electoral stakeholders and the Somali people according to a published calendar, by December 24, 2021 and for the Presidential elections are imminent thereafter.

We call for full transparency in all related processes, including selection committee appointments, selection of delegates, candidate registration, reservation of seats for women candidates, to meet the agreed quota of 30 percent and the management of the candidates’ fees. In addition, we ask the electoral committees to facilitate the observation of all the activities of the polling stations.

We ask that the right of candidates to stand for election under conditions of genuine and fair competition be respected.

We encourage delegates and candidates who wish to present electoral complaints to do so through the legal mechanisms established for this purpose.
