Insurgency: Zulum lauds army for renewed operational vigour in Borno

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno praised the army for its renewed vigor in counterinsurgency operations carried out by the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in the northeast.

Zulum praised it when he paid a courtesy visit to the army chief of staff, the lieutenant general. Ibrahim Attahiru, Monday, in Abuja.

He said the military has achieved some level of success in combating terrorists from Boko Haram and the Province of Islamic States of West Africa (ISWAP) in the state in recent times.

The governor said the military’s current effort has yielded positive results, adding that more needs to be done to ensure more farmers have access to their farmland.

He called for increased troop support for government efforts to resettle displaced people in their communities.

Zulum assured that the state government will continue to support the army in all areas, restore peace and stability in Borno and throughout the Northeast.

“Honestly, we have achieved a certain level of peace over the past two months despite the recent attacks, but there is still a long way to go as we need to come together to say the right thing.

“We are here to interact with the Nigerian Army, the Chief of Defense Staff and the Army Chief of Staff, in order to let them know the real situation on the ground because it is not It is only when you are informed of the facts and figures on the ground that you can think about the type of intervention.

“Overall, we are optimistic that the insurgency is over and urge the military to ensure that the existing gaps are closed.

“Most importantly, we need to look at the political, cultural and economic dimensions of this war, which is very important because farmers have to return to their farmland during this rainy season to be able to earn a living,” he said. he declares. .

The governor also assured that the government had put in place a solid institutional mechanism for an efficient circulation of information of the local population.

In response, Army Chief of Staff Attahiru congratulated the governor on the visit, saying it would give them the opportunity to interact and discuss issues that would bring peace to Borno and all. the North-east.

Attahiru also commended the government for its continued support for Operation Lafiya Dole and the Nigerian military in general, as well as wounded soldiers and families of fallen soldiers.

He assured that the Nigerian army was determined to defeat Boko Haram and conclude the operation, as soon as possible.

According to him, he had authorized a review of some of their activities, operations and strategies, adding that the issue of manpower, weapons and ammunition was being dealt with.

He called on the governor to consider rehabilitating some state roads to strengthen army operations.

“Let me assure you that the Nigerian military, under my leadership, will continue to do its best to support all of your programs and activities aimed at bringing peace that would allow socio-economic activities to flourish in Borno.

“Having said that, let me use this medium to call on you to urgently consider rehabilitating the roads and major supply routes that link some of the state’s local communities and, indeed, the humanitarian hubs.

“This will facilitate passage, keep humanitarian corridors open and improve our operations. It will also reduce the threat posed to our troops by improvised explosive devices, ”he said.
