Institute trains, certify faith-based drivers

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, has designed a training programme for drivers of Jesuit Refugee Services (JRS), an international Catholic organisation.
This is contained in a statement by Mr Francis Thomas, the Public Relations Officer of the institute, on Friday in Zaria, Kaduna State.
It said the drivers would be trained under the short term programmes of the institute, comprising theory and practical.
The statement added that the trainee drivers would first go through a simulated road and driving environment before proceeding to the field.
It quoted Dr Danjumma Ismail, the Director, Transport Technology Centre, representative of the Director-General of the institute, Dr Saleh Farah, as saying that NITT is a multi-modal transport and logistics training institute mandated to professionalise the industry.
Farah also said that the institute had study centres in the six geopolitical zones of the country as well as driver development centres in Zaria, Ughelli and Ilorin.
He added that the training programme was very vital and would strengthen the actovoties of the JRS in its operations and safety of other road users.
Similarly, the Country Director of JRS, Mr Patrick Elamesor, said the organisation was created in 2018 as a clear response to the needs and concerns that were prevalent across the country at the time.  (
