Insecurity: Nigerian Army inducts 60 new Armoured Personnel Carriers

The Nigerian military has taken 60 new tracked armored personnel carriers, APCs, made in China by NORINCO for deployment in the theater of operations.

Army Chief of Staff Faruk Yahaya on Thursday inaugurated the 60th APC at the Nigerian Army Infantry School, Jaji, Kaduna.

Yahaya, represented by the Infantry Corps Commander Victor Ezugwu, said the effort was to address the security challenges facing the country.

“These platforms commissioned here today are in addition to the other equipment provided for this purpose and underline the strategic desire to ensure that a state of normalcy is achieved across the country.

“Let me make it very clear that the Nigerian military, under my leadership, will continue to work diligently with relevant stakeholders, partners and other agencies for the protection of the sovereignty of Nigeria,” Mr. Yahaya said.

He assured Nigerians that the military will continue to take firm action to restrict the activities of non-state actors and ensure that they are completely rooted out, neutralized and wiped out.

He warned that any attempt to scuttle the ongoing government efforts by troops would be severely repressed.

Previously, the commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry School, Maude Gadzama, had expressed optimism that receiving the platforms would help the infantry pass the objective without stress.

“The receipt of these long awaited armored personnel carriers for three months and the practical training that followed, with more than 100 personnel is a clear indication that the end of the insurgency is now,” he said. Mr. Gadzama said.

He assured the army chief that the troops had been effectively trained on the equipment and that the purpose for which they had been purchased would be achieved.

He warned the insurgents to follow the path of peace and surrender with their weapons as thousands of cohorts do.

The commander urged the troops to make effective use of the armored personnel carriers and use them as the last broom to sweep the feet of the insurgents out of Nigeria.

NORINCO representative Feng Tian urged the troops to work together to manage the equipment for efficient service delivery.

He also urged them to use the equipment wisely through routine inspection and maintenance.

The 60 armored personnel carriers were handed over to the Nigerian military for the theater of operations in an event that highlighted tests in the conduct of the equipment by the troops.
