INEC Postpones Governorship and State Assembly Elections to March 18
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the governorship and state assembly elections, which were originally scheduled for March 11, to March 18, 2023.

The decision is due to the commission’s inability to promptly reconfigure the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines, which were used for the presidential election held on February 25, for the state elections.

INEC was previously restrained from altering the information embedded in the BVAS machines until due inspection was conducted and Certified True Copies (CTC) were issued to candidates who challenged the outcome of the presidential election.

However, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has now given INEC permission to reconfigure the machines.
INEC stated that the decision was taken to ensure that data from the previous election was adequately backed up and that the data would be available in INEC cloud facilities while maintaining the granting of access to all litigants to election materials.
