According to a statement issued by the Indian Prime Minister’s office, Modi wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the quake and said India stands by Indonesia in this time of grief.
“Saddened by the loss of life and property damage from the earthquake in Indonesia. Our deepest condolences to the victims and their families. We wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” Modi wrote on social media.
A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia’s West Java province on Monday, killing at least 268 people and 151 others still missing. The earthquake also left 1,083 injured and forced another 58,362 to flee their homes. ■
