FG inaugurates c’ttee to implement Executive Order 5

The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, on Thursday inaugurated the technical advisory committee of the working office for the implementation of the strategy for Presidential Decree No.5.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that Presidential Decree 5 is a document designed to place Nigerian professionals and manufacturers at the center of the Nigerian economy.

The UN, inaugurating the 204-member committee in Abuja, said they should focus on their mandates.

He said the committee’s mandates included deepening the knowledge-based economy which is driven by innovation and Nigeria’s rapid movement to become an industrialized nation.

Others are the creation of environments to mobilize local investment, attract more foreign direct investment and help in the economic empowerment of Nigerian professionals and manufacturers.

The UN advised committee members to find out from all stakeholders, professional bodies, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, the issues and challenges preventing them from participating effectively in the Nigerian economy.

He said the committee should be fully aware of the details of Executive Order 5 and ensure that its activity will ensure the full implementation of the order for the benefit of Nigerians.

UN said his ministry would develop six technology and innovation (ICT) centers established by Order 5 in the country’s six geopolitical zones.

He said they would increase the productivity and global competitiveness ranking of the country.

The president and coordinator of the Advisory Committee. Mr. Ibiam Oguejiofor, said the committee would adopt a policy of “bottom-up approach”, to fully tackle the implementation of the ordinance.
