Immoral act: Hisbah arrests 21 suspects, confiscates 111 bottles of beer in Jigawa



Hisbah, the Sharia Law enforcement agency in Jigawa on Monday said it had arrested 21 suspects of immoral acts and confiscated 111 bottles of beer from them.

The Hisbah Commander in the state, Malam Ibrahim Dahiru, who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse, said the suspects were arrested in Kazaure Local Government Area of the state.

.Dahiru said that the operatives of the command carried out the raid in the early hours of Monday at the popular Gadar Kazaure joint.

He explained that during the raid, 14 suspected commercial sex workers and seven men were arrested.

The commander added that the suspects were arrested for allegedly engaging in immoral acts in the area.

According to him, the suspects have already been charged to Shari’a Court in Kazaure.

Dahiru further advised residents of the state to desist from engaging in immoral acts and other vices capable of destroying the society.

“The Hisbah will continue to fight against immoral acts, including consumption of alcohol.

“People are also reminded that consumption of beer remains prohibited in all parts of the state,” he warned

Alleged forgery: Arrest warrant on 2 Sri Lankans still stands, judge says



Justice Olasumbo Goodluck of an FCT High Court in Maitamadeclared that the warrant of arrest it issued against two Sri Lankans, ‎still subsists and remains valid.


The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Saththiyaraj Kantharasa, Vinith Ukantharasa and a Nigerian, Anthony Adetokunbo, were to be arraigned on May 13 by the ICPC over alleged possession of  fake Malaysian passports and making false statement.

They failed to appear in court.

Justice Goodluck on  that day, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the two Sri Lankans and their sureties over their failure to attend the court for arraignment .

She fixed June 24 for arraignment after the ICPC counsel Mr Anieken Ekong informed the court that the two Sri Lankans were still not in court.

Ekong said the ICPC reported to the police on the order of bench warrant issued against the suspects and their sureties.

He told the court that the police asked for time to enable them act on it.

Ekong, however, said that the third suspect who had been remanded in correctional centre was in court.

EFCC arrests ex-convict for possession of suspected fake $10,100 traveller’s cheque



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says its Lagos zonal office has arrested one Mark Obisesan, an ex-convict, for possession of suspected fake traveller’s cheque worth 10,000 US Dollars.

The anti-graft commission disclosed this in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Mr Wilson Uwujaren in Abuja on Tuesday.

Uwujaren said that the suspect, who had served a 12-month jail term for Internet fraud in UK, was arrested recently at his residence in Banana Island, Lagos.

He said that Obisesan was arrested following intelligence from concerned members of the public about his alleged criminal activities.

“At the point of arrest, a Ferrari 488 car, two i-phones, one Samsung phone, a laptop and Automated Teller Machine cards were recovered from the suspect, whom investigation revealed does not have any known source of livelihood.”

Uwujaren said that the suspect would soon be charged to court.

FCT: Police arrest 985 suspects in 2019



The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Tuesday said it arrested 985 suspects for various criminal offences between January and December, 2019.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Charge of the command, Mr Bala Ciroma, disclosed at a news conference in Abuja.

He said 210 of the suspects were arrested over armed robbery, 86 for car theft, 513 for petty theft, 29 for kidnapping, 77 involved in `one chance’ and fraudsters and 70 for drugs and cultism.

Ciroma said 88 firearms, 118 ammunition and 66 cars were recovered within the period under review.

He said the protection of life and property in the FCT and its environs would remain the the core priority of the Police Command in the territory.

According to him, throughout the year in focus, the command has maintained a resolute stance in its efforts to combat crime and criminality across FCT.

He pledged the commitment of the command to continue to fight crime in the territory and to ensure its reduction to the barest minimum.

The polce commissioner however advised employers of domestic staff in the FCT to be vigilant and imbibe the habit of conducting constant background checks in view of the fact that some people’s character could change with time.

“I want to sound this note of warning to criminals that they have no place in the FCT, because the command has deployed proactive security measures to beat them at their game.

“The only option available to criminals nursing any thought of coming to the FCT is to either repent and turn a new leaf or be prepared to face the full wrath of the law.

“As we advance into the new year, I want to assure the public that the command is making concerted efforts to build on its numerous successes of 2019,” Ciroma said.

He added the idea was to provide FCT residents with better service delivery in 2020.

Ciroma also commended the public for their partnership and continuous support in the policing of the FCT in 2019.

4 Brigade Troops arrest 5 for suspected murder, armed robbery



The troops of 4 Brigade Exercise Crocodile Smile IV on Monday arrested five persons in connection with alleged murder and Armed robbery.

This was contained in a press statement issued by Maj. Ojo Adenegan, Assistant Director Army Public Relations in Benin on Tuesday.

Adenegan said that two of the suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of some NDLEA personnel, while three were arrested in connection with alleged armed robbery.

He also said that the suspect were arrested at two separate operations by the troops.

He explained that the two murder suspects were arrested at a joint operation by the troops and personnel of the NDLEA.

He said the the murder suspects were arrested in connection with the killings of four NDLEA personnel in Uzebba, in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo.

According to him, “The NDLEA, Ondo State Command in the early hours of Monday 9 December 2019 conducted a raid operation at Uzebba Community in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The operation was targeted at suspects who allegedly attacked NDLEA Checkpoint between Ifon and Uzebba on 17 February this year.

“Four personnel of NDLEA were killed and their operational vehicle set ablaze in the unfortunate incident.

“During the raid operation in Uzebba Town one the

suspects was arrested while the second suspect escaped but his wife was picked up.

In another development, troops of 4 Brigade Exercise Crocodile Smile; acting on a tip off, prevented a robbery attack at Ogheghe Community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo at about 22:00hrs hrs on Monday.

Adenegan said that on receipt of the information, troops mobilised swiftly to the scene of the incident and arrested 3 suspects.

He also said that the troops recovered a short single barrel gun with five live cartridges.

He, however, said that the suspected killers of the personnel of NDLEA have been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation.

He added that the robbery suspects are in custody for further investigation before they are handed over to the Police for further necessary action.
