An Ilorin Area Court on Thursday dissolved the two-year-old marriage of Mr Ismail Soliu and his divorce seeking wife, Aishat Soliu.
Aishat, a resident of Sawmill area of Ilorin, had approached the court to seek for dissolution of her two-year-old marriage to her husband (Ismail Soliu) over lack of maintenance.
The plaintiff alleged that the defendant was not taking care of her and their one-year-old daughter.
She said they were married in 2018 and had produced one child, Fatimoh, whom she said was a year old.
“He never provides for me and my daughter food to eat talk-less of buying pampas. He only cares for himself, not family.
“My Lord, I want this honourable court to urgently dissolve this marriage because I cannot cope again,” she prayed.
She also urged the court to grant her custody of their only daughter and sought for an order compelling Ismail to pay her N5,000 monthly as feeding allowance for the child.
The defendant did not object to the prayer of the plaintiff for divorce, saying she is free to go.
The defendant, however, objected to her prayer for child custody, saying “I cannot release my child to her until she returned my cooking gas and other items.
“My Lord, I want her to return my Cooking gas, wall clock, cooperative pass book and some DVD cassettes before anything,” he said.
However, the plaintiff contested the claim and told the court that she was the owner of the cooking gas while promising to return the defendants DVD cassettes and wall clock.
“My Lord, I packed the DVD cassettes and the wall clock and hide it somewhere when I was cleaning the house. I will return it to the court tomorrow or next sitting.
“I don’t know the whereabouts of his cooperative pass book, but the gas I bought it with my own personal money when we got married,” she said.
The Presiding Judge, Mr Abdulhameed Aliyu, dissolved their marriage as sought, but however adjourned the case of child custody and the claim of cooking gas to March 25, for both parties to establish their case.
