Fidelity Bank Plc has rewarded 13 customers with the sum of N15 million in the first draw of its Get Alert in Millions (GAIM) Season 4 Savings promo.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the bank rewarded the lucky customers at the prize presentation ceremonies held in different locations across the country at the weekend.

NAN also reports that two Lagos customers namely Mr Okechukwu Darlington and Mr Chisom Akazie won one million Naira each.

Other customers carted away consolation prizes of power generating sets, refrigerator and television sets.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, Darlington, a business man said he never imagined himself becoming a winner and even thought the call from the bank was a scam.

“I got a call from the bank informing me that i was one lucky winner of N1 million in the GAIM 4.

“At first, I felt it was a prank by fraudsters but I decided to come for the prize presentation and here I am. I am very happy to win the prize money. In fact, this Christmas would be better for me and my family.

“Fidelity Bank has kept to their word and I pray that they will continue to soar to greater heights. I would also use this opportunity to tell my friends that this is real and not a case of fraud”, Darlington said.

Also, Akazie, however commended the bank for keeping to their word.

He urged other customers to continue to have faith in the financial institution.

Earlier, Mr Ken Opara,Regional Bank Head (RBH), Ikeja said that the promo was instituted to encourage savings culture and to reward loyal customers.

Opara assured customers that the bank would continue to keep to its words and congratulated the winners.

“The GAIM 4 is the 9th promo being conducted by the bank in the last 13 years and this is not about Fidelity Bank mobilising savings.

“Rather, it seeks to empower Nigerians especially our customers which is key to the growth and development of this economy.

“We recognise that it is also important to build the savings culture among Nigerians to elevate their status and take their business to the next level.

“It is worthy to note that similar presentations are also going on in our locations outside Lagos as a total of 31 winners that emerged would be presented with their prizes and N1.5 million worth of airtime will be also given to 1,600 customers as weekly give away”, he said.

Also speaking, Mr Bashir Ale, Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Lotteries Board, congratulated the winners and urged them to use the money judiciously.

Ale said that the board was planning to roll out ongoing promos on its website to reduce the incidences of fraud.

He noted that more than 94 per cent of Nigerians were living off a low-budget while adding that the board would continue to protect its citizens from frivolous gaming and gambling.

Ekiti Deputy Gov eulogises late theatre icon, Jimoh Aliu

Published

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, has paid tributes to the late theatre icon, Chief Jimoh Aliu.

He eulogised the late prominent artiste for using his talent in promoting arts and culture locally, nationally and internationally.

Egbeyemi, in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on media, Mr Odunayo Ogunmola, on Saturday,  described the late Aliu as a worthy Ekiti Ambassador, who placed the name of the state on the global map of theatre, arts, culture and entertainment.

He described the death of the former National President of the Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP), as a great and monumental loss not only to Ekiti, his state of origin but also to entire Nigeria.

According to him, the late dramatist and producer exhibited the famed Ekiti virtues of honesty, integrity, hard work and good name, which the youths of nowadays must emulate.

Egbeyemi noted that the Aliu mentored many young artistes and promoted local content in the nation’s entertainment industry.

The Deputy Governor said the plays and films produced by the deceased taught moral lessons, bravery, valour, strong will, determination and self-belief in pursuit of dreams and vision.

He said that Aliu rose to stardom by hard work and perseverance, and never forgot his roots as he lived among his people throughout his lifetime.

Egbeyemi regretted that the late Aliu died at a time his wise counsel was still needed, noting that the deceased contributed his quota to the development of Ekiti State.

The Deputy Governor, while commiserating with the family and associates of the deceased, urged them to be consoled by the good life he lived and the legacies he left behind.

“Surely, the vacuum left behind by this great legend of the stage and movies will be difficult to fill owing to his sterling contributions over the years.

“This is a monumental loss not only to Ekiti, but to our entire country. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family of the deceased.”

He prayed God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

COVID-19: Lagos govt reopens cinemas, gyms

Published

on

The Lagos State Government on Saturday permitted the reopening of cinemas and gyms, with a maximum of 33 per cent occupancy.

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu said this during the 18th update on the management of coronavirus in the state.

Sanwo-Olu said that in October, the state government would announce the decisions regarding the reopening of other sectors of the economy.

”Dear Lagosians, henceforth, cinemas and gyms are permitted to reopen as soon as possible, with a maximum of 33 per cent occupancy.

”This means that there must be a minimum of two empty seats between occupied seats; and in the case of gyms, there must be constant disinfection of machines and equipment throughout the course of the day.

”Next month, October, we will announce the decisions regarding the reopening of other sectors of the economy: night-clubs, bars, event centres, spas, public parks and so on.

”For now, these will continue to remain closed, until fixed plans for reopening are announced in October 2020,” he said.

Accordings to him, places of worship are also permitted, while the mosques to resume their five times a day prayers; the churches are permitted to resume their mid-week services.

”We must not forget that the coronavirus pandemic is still very much with us, and we must therefore strive to prioritise the safety of all our children, teachers, parents, and the entire society.

”All of these resumption guidelines and protocols must be strictly adhered to by the various stakeholders,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu said that the state government was committed to continuing the maintenance of a balance between the safety of lives and the sustenance of livelihoods.

He said that the state would continue to make adjustments as required, but the gradual resumption of social, educational and economic activities must never be taken as an excuse to let down the guard against the pandemic.

According to him, some parts of the world are seeing a resurgence of infections, and rising possibilities of the kind of hard lockdowns being experienced a few months ago.

”Let me make it clear that if we do not continue to maintain our guard, and sustain the adherence to all required protocols and guidelines, we will find ourselves in a situation where fresh lockdowns are inevitable.

”The only way to avoid this is to continue to act responsibly: maintain the required levels of hygiene, through regular handwashing and use of sanitisers, wear masks in all public places, avoid non-essential public gatherings, and maintain the prescribed levels of physical distancing at all times,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Edo Poll: PDP alleges move to replace election results in Edo North

Published

on

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has alleged of plots by some paid agents to replace the Saturday Edo governorship election results where the PDP was leading, particularly in Edo North.

The party in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja on Saturday alerted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS) on the allegation.

Ologbondiyan said that the PDP urged its members to remain vigilant and follow their results to all the collation centers.

He also said that it cautioned the security agencies against being used to replace results already being declared at the respective polling units.

“Already, we are aware that results are being manufactured in Kogi state to be used as replacements for already declared results, particularly in Edo North.

“We draw the attention of INEC to such results being bandied by the APC, including the fake result claimed to have emanated from Etsako West, where a vote of 914 was allocated to the APC, as against the genuine declaration at the polling units.

“A cursory check on the results being circulated in the public space by the APC failed a litmus test of the identification numbers of INEC declaration of results.

“Whereas polling unit results are identified as Form EC8A, the results being paraded by the APC carry a fake identification number of Form EC60E.

“Our party expresses concerns that this sinister adventure of the APC is being encouraged by the slow pace of uploading already declared results in INEC’s virtual portal,” Ologbondiyan said.

He said that the PDP was alarmed by the report that the development had led to avoidable post-election violence, including reported killing of innocent Edo citizens.

He alleged that the victims had come out to perform their civic responsibilities as the police allegedly withdrew their men in certain collation centres.

Ologbondiyan called on the Inspector-General of Police to protect innocent Nigerians from the violent act.

“We charge the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to ensure that his officials are not compromised to replace results.

“The people of Edo state have spoken loud and clear with their votes in their respective units, and they are already aware of the authentic results,” Ologbondiyan said.

Reacting to the statement, Mr Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee,  told the News Agency of Nigeria , that INEC was committed to following through its processes and procedures for a successful and credible election.

Okoye said that INEC officers were uploading the results on the commission’s Result Viewing Portal.

“The Commission is irrevocably committed to following through its processes and procedures.

“As at 18.49p.m. 702 results have been uploaded in the INEC Result Viewing Portal.

“Our Presiding Officers are uploading Form EC8A which is the Polling Unit Result.

“Presiding Officers must complete Form EC 60E (The People’s Result Sheet), and paste at the polling unit.

“We understand the challenges posed by poor network in some of our communities and our Registration Area Technical Assistants are working hard at overcoming the challenges.

“The Commission is focused on completing the process. The Commission is not interested in the outcome but focused on the processes and procedures,” Okoye said.
