A housewife, Khadija Isah, of Hayin Malam Bello, Kaduna, on Tuesday dragged her ex-husband to a Sharia Court l sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, seeking custody of their two children.
Isah told the court that her union with her estranged husband, Surajo Salawudeen, produced five children.
“When we separated, I got married to another man and my former husband took four of our children to stay with him, while one stayed with me.
“When my mother died about three years ago, my ex-husband refused to allow our children attend the funeral.
“After I got married, he send our eldest son who is 18-year-old and his immediate brother who is 16-year-old come on a visit to me, but they came with all their belongings.
“He send them back to me in disguise, because he couldn’t cater for them, I want the other two children to also come and live with me,” Isah said.
The respondent, however, told the court that he did not send the children packing from his house as alleged by the petitioner.
“I told them to go on a visit to their mother, I never knew they went with their belongings, I told them to come back and they refused,” Salawudeen said.
The judge, Dahiru Lawal, ordered that the children should go back to their father.
Lawal, however, gave the custody of the 6-year-old child to the petitioner.
“You are now married to another man, you can’t stay with adult children under another man’s care,” the judge said.
Lawal also ordered Salawudeen to enroll all the children in school and take care of their needs.
He said the respondent should pay N3,000 monthly for upkeep of the 6-year-old child in the custody of the petitioner.https://nnn.ng/housewife-drags-ex-husband-to-court-seeks-custody-of-children/
