A housewife Hassana Usman, on Tuesday appeared in a Grade I Area Court, in Mpape, Abuja, for allegedly beating her neighbour to a pulp.
The police charged Usman, 25, of Gwan village, Mpape, with causing grievous hurt.
The Prosecutor, Mr Stanley Nwaforaku, told the court that the incident occurred when the complainant Hauwa Abdullahi, tried to intervene in a fight between Usman and her daughter, Maimuna.
Nwaforaku said Abdullahi was trying to prevent the defendant from beating and injuring Maimuna, when she turned on her and attacked her with a knife, and in the process removed her teeth, thereby causing her grievous hurt.
The prosecutor said the matter was reported at Mpape Police Station by the complainant, Abdullahi, of Gwam village on Nov. 15.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 248 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Mr Salihu Ibrahim, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N250, 000 with one reasonable surety in like sum.
Ibrahim then adjourned the case until Dec. 2, for further hearing.

Housewife, 18, says she killed husband to avoid defilement
A housewife, Salma Hassan, 18, who allegedly stabbed her husband to death, has said that she did that because she didn’t know that sex was part of marital obligations.
Salma, who is being detained by the Police Command in Bauchi, told newsmen that she killed her husband, Mohammed Mustafa, because she thought he was “just trying to defile me”.
“I didn’t know that sex is a marital obligation. On that day, when he approached me for sex, I refused because I have never been involved in it before.
“I thought he wanted to rape me but he got angry and was trying to force himself on me. He started beating me.
“I picked up a knife to scare him away but he kept coming and I didn’t know when I stabbed him with the knife in his chest,” she said.
Salma further explained that she had already given her statement to the Police and did not know what would become her fate.
“I wouldn’t have done it if I knew better about marital obligations,” she claimed.
The News Agency of Nigeria , reports that the suspect was paraded before newsmen in the north-eastern state’s capital.
Mr Philip Maku, Police Commissioner in the state, also showed newsmen a knife Salma allegedly used to commit the crime at her home in Itas-Gadau Local Government Area of the state.
The Police officer explained that the suspect was arrested on April 24.
“On April 24, one Haruna Musa, a resident of Itas-Gadau, reported the matter at Itas-Gadau Division. He complained that one Salma Hassan stabbed her husband.
“The husband, Mohammed Mustapha, was stabbed on the chest. He sustained injuries and was rushed to the General hospital, Itas–Gadau for treatment but died soon after arriving at the facility.
“The suspect was arrested and has confessed to the crime. Exhibit recovered from the suspect was one knife,” he said.
While answering questions from Journalists, Salma said she stabbed her man because she didn’t know that sex was just another part of marriage.
“I thought he was just trying to defile me. No one told me about this aspect of marital union,” the young woman said.

Housewife docked for allegedly stabbing ‘peacemaker’
A housewife, Salimat Hamza, on Friday appeared in a Kaduna Upper Sharia Court, for allegedly stabbing a ‘peacemaker’, who was trying to separate a fight.
The 22-year old defendant, who resides along Taiwo Road Kaduna, is charged with causing grievous hurt.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Abubakar Shehu, told court that the ‘peacemaker’ who was also the defendant’s neighbour, Halima Musa, reported the matter at Sabon Gari Police Station on March 15.
He alleged that the defendant, on March 15. stabbed the complainant with a knife when she tried to separate a fight between Hamza and another neighbour.
Shehu said that the complainant suffered deep cuts on her head and hand.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 219 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Mustapha Umar, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one reasonable surety in like sum.
Umar adjourned the case until April 3, for further hearing.

Housewife drags husband to court over N300 for upkeep of 8 children
A housewife, Zainab Abdullahi, on Thursday dragged her estranged husband, Usman Abdullahi, a vulcanizer, to a Sharia Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, alleging that he gives her only N300 for the upkeep of their eight children.
The woman, who resides at Rigasa in Kaduna, also said that her husband had abandoned her for three years and does not pay their house rent which is N35, 000.
“I and my eldest son who is 22-years-old do contribute and pay our house rent, my husband doesn’t take care of us, I am praying the court to terminate our marriage if he refuses to change,’’ she said.
The defendant, Abdullahi, however, told the court that he was trying his best to take care of his family based on his daily earnings.
“Sometimes I give them N900 daily, when there is no much work, I give them N700, N400 or N300, but I will try hard to be giving them N1, 000,’’ he said.
The Judge, Murtala Nasir, after listening to both parties, ordered the defendant to take full responsibility of his family.
He adjourned the case to March 23 for judgement and ordered the defendant to be sleeping in his wife’s room for the period of the adjournment, to see the changes he would make.

Housewife seeks divorce over husband’s failure to pay rent
A housewife, Sakina Lawal on Wednesday prayed a Shari’a court sitting in Rigasa, Kaduna to dissolve the three-year marriage to husband, Abubakar Abdullahi over his inability to pay for rent.
”My husband has abandoned me. He does not care about me. He has also denied me of sex.
“I can no longer stay in a loveless marriage, he should divorce me if he is not ready to change,’’ she told the court.
In his defence, Abdullahi said has tried his best to satisfy his wife.
Abdullahi prayed the court to give him time to settle with his wife.
After listening to parties, the judge, Malam Dahiru Bamalli adjourned the matter until June 6 for the couple to explore avenues to settle their differences out of court. .
