High-level AMISOM delegation visits Galmudug state to assess election security readiness

A high-level delegation from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), led by Force Commander Lt. Gen. Diomède Ndegeya, visited Dhusamareb, the administrative capital of Somalia, on Sunday. State of Galmudug in Somalia, to assess the well-being and operational readiness of its staff to secure elections in the region.

The delegation visited AMISOM’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Dhusamareb, a polling station in the city, then held a closed-door meeting with Galmudug Chairman Ahmed Abdi Kaariye “Qorqor”, and senior commanders of the Somali National Army. (SNA).

Speaking after the meetings, AMISOM force commander Lt. Gen. Ndegeya said they were impressed with the level of preparation for the elections and urged Somali security forces and staff to l ‘AMISOM to redouble its efforts to ensure that the elections take place in a secure environment, without any disruption.

“We also met with local government officials and the SNA to discuss how we can improve and speed up our joint operations. We were fortunate to be received by His Excellency the President of Galmudug. He informed us of the security situation and assured us that it was under control, ”said Lieutenant General Ndegeya.

He urged AMISOM military and police personnel deployed in the region to strengthen coordination among themselves to ensure that the Mission achieves its objectives.

“I have also come here to boost the morale of our troops and to strengthen coordination between the AMISOM police and the military components of AMISOM. We have discussed at length how they can coordinate better, advance their main task, secure the elections in Somalia, ”added the Force Commander.

AMISOM Police Commissioner Deputy Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Augustine Magnus Kailie revealed that AMISOM police personnel deployed to Dhusamareb on September 20, 2021 are integrating well with police agencies. local security to secure the elections.

Dhusamareb in Galmudug State falls under the Area of ​​Responsibility of Sector Four of AMISOM headquartered in Beledweyne in HirShabelle State. AMISOM Sector Four Commander Col. Hassan Jama Farah said the visit was timely.

“We have come to assess the security situation and also to see how the preparations for the elections are proceeding, to assess the security of the elections and also to meet the AMISOM forces deployed here. We came to check their work and accommodation needs, ”Colonel Farah said.
