The Medium Security Custody Center, Jos, Jos, Plateau State, was attacked Sunday by gunmen who reportedly stormed the facility in large numbers with sophisticated weapons.

Francis Enobore, a spokesman for the center, revealed this in a press release.

“The invaders were said to have arrived at the Custody Center around 5:20 pm and immediately made their way to the main gate where they confronted armed squad personnel in a firefight before storming into the courtyard.

“Although they managed to enter the courtyard, they are trapped inside, as the men from the brother security services immediately mobilized to help the armed guards cordon off the perimeter wall and the entire area,” said Enobore, a corrections controller.

According to Mr. Enobore, the reinforcement of the Service’s response brigade was also mobilized to the center.

He said the situation is currently under control as the attackers’ firing power is being subdued by superior fire from a combined team of security agencies.

“The update will be available as the event unfolds,” he said.
