GT Don Fall 33 Runs, LSG Snatch Victory for Top 2 Race

New Delhi, India – For IPL 2025, the Gujarat Titans (GT) faced a shocking setback, losing to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 33 runs on May 22. This loss complicates GT’s quest for a top-two finish, which guarantees two chances to reach the finals.

The match began with LSG posting a formidable score of 235 runs, driven by a century from Mitchell Marsh, who scored 117 runs off 64 deliveries. Rishabh Pant’s squad, after winning the toss, chose to bat first, anticipating that their total would provide them with an edge over GT.

GT’s chase started with hope as Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan have been in top form. Sudharsan aiming to extend his run tally of 617 runs this season, while Gill was not far with 601 runs. Sadly, they both met their match against a tenacious LSG bowling lineup.

GT’s innings faltered, with their top three dismissed by the end of the 10th over. This overwhelming pressure was built by LSG’s excellent fielding and bowling strategies, particularly by Avesh Khan who picked up two key wickets.

Despite a valiant effort from Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan, who both made decent contributions, GT ultimately finished their innings at 202, well short of the needed target. “We fought hard, but LSG played better cricket today,” said GT captain Gill after the match.

LSG, earlier on a losing streak, displayed revitalized energy. Marsh stated, “It was crucial for us to get back to winning ways. We showed our potential today.” LSG has faced ups and downs this season, and this victory provides a crucial confidence boost as they approach the season’s end.

Speaking officially about GT’s standing, coach Ashish Nehra said, “We must regroup for our final matches. Other results will also have a say in whether we get a top two finish.”

GT will now prepare for their subsequent matches, needing wins to secure their place in the playoffs, while LSG aims to keep their momentum alive.
