Network Society for Water and Sanitation (NEWSAN) in Bauchi State, has called on government agencies and other stakeholders to strengthen cholera prevention and outbreak preparedness.
NEWSAN made the call in a statement signed by Mr Sukumun Ezekiel, its Programmme Manager, Water Sanitation and Hygiene on Monday, in Bauchi.
According to the society, there is need to evolve a reliable monitoring and assessment mechanism towards preventing cholera outbreaks in the state.
It further said that there was need to ensure effective tracking of cholera outbreaks with a view to mitigating its impact on society.
“We are therefore calling on government agencies to strengthen cholera prevention and outbreak preparedness.
“Stakeholders should come together to strengthen the capacities of communities and local institutions towards systematic resilience building against cholera outbreaks,” NEWSAN said.
It called on the government to implement policies that would make way for the provision of potable water and decent toilet systems for the people.
The society also urged the government and health sector stakeholders to embark on adequate awareness campaigns to equip the people with preventive tips against cholera.
“To achieve deepened awareness creation exercise against cholera, the traditional, religious and community-based institutions should play key roles.
“We all need to work towards tackling the consistent outbreak of cholera in Bauchi, which has become a thing of grave concern to the state.’’https://nnn.ng/group-seeks-improved-cholera-prevention-preparedness-in-bauchi/
