Great Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson and Jazmin Sawyers Take Gold at European Indoor Championships
Great Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson defended her 800m title at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul, finishing in one minute 58.66 seconds, almost two seconds ahead of Slovene Anita Horvat.
Team captain Jazmin Sawyers also won a gold medal with a world-leading jump of seven metres, her personal best and unmatched anywhere in the world this season.
Sawyers was emotional after winning her first major title and said the jump was a “real jump,” equalling that which won the Olympics.
On the final day of the competition, Britain won six medals in total, contributing to a medal tally of 12 for the 2021 championship, more than any other nation, and finishing third in the table behind Norway and the Netherlands.
