Grace Charis Bassey Dazzle as She Join U.S. Navy, Becomes Citizen

Lagos, Nigeria – Grace Charis Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, has shared an inspiring journey of her transition from Nollywood actress to U.S. Navy sailor. The 33-year-old now proudly holds U.S. citizenship after completing rigorous training in boot camp.

Bassey took to Instagram on May 19, 2025, to express her gratitude. In a heartfelt post, she shared a photo of herself in her Navy uniform and wrote, “Last week, I graduated from U.S. Navy boot camp as a Sailor and took the oath as a citizen of the United States. Nigeria raised me. America challenged me. I stand today stronger and more determined than ever. Thank you to everyone who believed in me. This is just the beginning.” She dedicated her achievement to her late father, Naval CDR Asido Bassey Effah.

The actress’s journey is a testament to her resilience and determination. Fans have expressed overwhelming support, especially those recalling her notable name change from Belinda to Grace in 2021. During a previous interview with The PUNCH, Bassey revealed, “Belinda literally means ‘beautiful serpent,’” explaining that the name change followed a spiritual awakening. “God changed my name to Grace after a divine encounter,” she added, noting it was part of a rebranding that aligned with her purpose.

Social media comments flooded in from her supporters. One user, identified as @rockthecarpetwithusenika, expressed pride in Bassey’s achievements, saying, “Dang girl! No wonder you went off the grid! Been worried about you but look at what you went and did. I’M SO FREAKING PROUD OF YOU!”

Another fan, @vanessateemsma, referred to Bassey as “my goddess,” celebrating her accomplishment and stating, “It is an honor to stand beside you in this moment. God did it but you were his vessel.”

The reactions highlight Bassey’s influence and the pride felt by her supporters as she begins this new chapter in her life.
