Enugu, Nigeria – One bang of a statement drop from former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, don make Igbo women no gree hear word again! This time, na di Igbo Women Assembly (IWA) wey dey vex well well. Dem complain say Gowon talk say he fight civil war just to keep Nigeria united, and dem no gree hear that one! (E be like say dem fit use di statement collect award for best drama).
National President of IWA, Lolo Nneka Chimezie, no hold back as she respond say Gowon dey lie for him teeth. “How e take bring true reconciliation after di war?” she ask, pointing out say Igbos still dey face plenty injustice and marginalisation even after all correct speeches wey dem don hear for TV! (Make we no lie, na real wahala).
Last week, IWA challenge Gowon to open him mouth make we hear wetin e sabi about di civil war and di Aburi Accord wey him sign with Chukwuemeka Ojukwu. And now, dem don put mouth again for di discussion, calling Gowon out say him no fight for unity; rather, him dey desperate to rule Nigeria. Omo, sha, na di kind politics wey we dey talk about.
Chimezie wey yarn with power, claim say di way Gowon take turn di tables no make sense. “At di time wey he become Head of State, no be say him senior pass plenty pipo for di military. Na dem protests follow am before e for enter power,” she stated, as e no tallied with di truth of how military ranking dey work. (True true, sometimes, na just by force and who you know).
On top of all dis, IWA say Gowon na person wey let himself dance to British tune, sacrificing di Igbos for him own power. Dem claim say di British no forgive di Igbos for di Aba Women’s Riot and used di situation to slander dem by painting dem as di bad guys. “Na lie! Di coup wey happen no be igbo matter,” di group dey shout. (E fit hard to swallow but wetin we go fit talk? Politics na game wey no get rules sometimes).
Chimezie dey call Gowon out saying if di war na for unity as e dey claim, why him no implement Aburi Accord? She dey worry say Gowon fit deny knowledge of di war crimes wey dem say di federal troops commit during di war, and she dey ask wetin happen to say sorry to di victims till today. (E be like say Gowon don forget wetin he do; or maybe e need new memory).
As di talk dey hot like hot palm oil, we go dey watch wetin go happen next. Will Gowon come out come clear dis matter? Or go just dey waka waka without saying anything? Time na only go tell us. Naija and kadara kind gist be dat!
