Governor of Cabo Delgado to highlight LNG’s value for Mozambique’s socio-economic growth during African Energy Week

Valige Tauabo will lead a lively discussion on the role of capacity building, local content and job creation in Mozambique

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, September 22, 2021 / APO Group / –

The Mozambican governor of the province of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, has confirmed his participation in the African Energy Week (AEW) 2021 in Cape Town, which will be held from November 9 to 12. Representing the most natural resource-rich province in Mozambique, and being the location of the three large-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) developments, Tauabo serves as a bridge between the energy sector and the local community, and will foster the local content, capacity building, and infrastructure development in Cape Town.

As governor of the province of Cabo Delgado, Tauabo ensures that the country’s significant LNG developments translate into tangible socio-economic benefits for the provincial and national community. The region is considered the birthplace of oil and gas and is home to the $ 20 billion Mozambique LNG project led by TotalEnergies; the $ 4.7 billion Coral Floating LNG project led by Eni and ExxonMobil; and the $ 30 billion Rovuma LNG project led by ExxonMobil, Eni and the China National Petroleum Corporation. With some of the most important LNG projects, not only in Mozambique but in Africa, being developed in the Rovuma basin off the coast of Cabo Delgado province, the governor aims to use energy sector developments as a catalyst. strong and sustainable economic growth across the province and will promote it at AEW 2021 in Cape Town.

Although he has only been governor since 2019, Tauabo has shown a commitment to strengthening the energy sector of the community and the region. The governor has been proactive in implementing security measures with the start of the insurgency in the northern province. With regional assistance, the government regained control of the LNG project development area earlier this year and is now focused on resuming project activities and accelerating infrastructure growth. Focusing primarily on promoting investment in Cabo Delgado, Tauabo works directly with the African Energy Chamber (AEC) and the oil and gas industry to generate investment in the province.

“When I visited Mozambique and spoke to President Nyusi about the issues of Cabo Delgado, he proactively asked me to visit Cabo Delgado with many players in the oil industry. Governor Valige Tauabo was kind enough to receive us and work with us to explore opportunities in the province, creating a good environment for oil and gas and service companies and pushing to invest in the province. Incorporating Cabo Delgado’s story into AEW 2021 is an incredible opportunity to work with investors, and also to tell a story about the province and its challenges as well as its potential beyond oil and gas, ”said NJ Ayuk. , executive president of the AEC.

In addition, Tauabo focuses on the diversification of the local economy. By drawing attention to the role that international oil companies and large-scale energy developments have and continue to play in economic growth, Tauabo reaffirms its commitment to the community of Cabo Delgado. In Cape Town, Tauabo will promote local content, highlighting how job creation opportunities will stimulate socio-economic growth, as well as capacity building, highlighting how training and skills transfer will not only advance the development of the energy sector, but will significantly increase national capacities. Joining the Mozambican delegation in Cape Town, Tauabo will offer an alternative perspective to the stakeholders present, representing the community, the energy sector and the government.

“Valige Tauabo will lead a robust discussion on the role of capacity building, local content and job creation in Mozambique. With the right investment and resumption of development, Mozambique has the potential to become an energy hub in Southern Africa and Tauabo and AEC aim to make this a reality, ”Ayuk continued.

AEW 2021, in partnership with the South African Department of Mineral Resources and Energy DMRE, is the AEC’s annual conference, exhibition and networking event. AEW 2021 brings together African energy players with international investors and partners to drive industry growth and development and promote Africa as a destination for energy investments.
