Gov. Buni orders investigation as soldier shot driver dead in Yobe

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has ordered an investigation into the suspected killing of a driver, Mohammed Toli, by a soldier in Garin Alkali, Bade Local Government Area of ​​the state.
Toli was reportedly shot and killed Friday night at a gas station as he ran to safety.
Mr. Buni, in a statement by his Director General for Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, on Saturday in Damaturu, described the incident as unfortunate after a long period of peace regaining in the area and the state.



“The government and security authorities will not tolerate any reckless act capable of disturbing our hard-won peace.
“Therefore, I assure you that the government will properly investigate the matter and deal with it decisively.
“I also call on our good people in the Bade local government area and across the state to stay calm and abide by the law.
“We must avoid anything that is detrimental to our peace.  They are advised to be good Muslims and take it as the will of Allah and avoid roadside bonfires.

NAN also reports that on Saturday morning, angry youths had barricaded the Filin Tanda area in Gashua city, protesting the arbitrary killing of Mr. Toli.

They set fire to tires and other property and demanded justice for the deceased, whom they described as a peaceful and law-abiding person.

When contacted, Yobe Police Command spokesman Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed the disturbance and said police had restored law and order in the area.

Abdulkarim, Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the matter was under investigation and anyone who failed to do so would face the full wrath of the law.
