‘Goat debate resolved’: Soccer pundits hail Argentina’s Messi as greatest of all time after World Cup win – Sport
Argentina won the World Cup on Sunday after beating defending champions France 4-2 on penalties, following a dramatic 3-3 draw after extra time.
Lionel Messi was the top scorer for the Argentine team and cemented his position as the GOAT (greatest of all time) after his winning performance.
FIFA cheekily asked the question of who the GOAT was, prompting Twitter users to clutter the responses with images of the great Argentine.
He later followed up with a photo of Messi wearing a crown.
“A game we will never forget,” said FIFA and most people agreed.
The PML-N also showed which field they were in.
Islamabad United team strategy manager Hassan Cheema said the World Cup was necessary to cement Messi’s greatness.
Former English field hockey player Sam Quek said the debate was now settled over who was the better soccer player between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Messi is truly the GOAT,” said PPP leader Aseefa Bhutto Zardari.
Others had great words of praise for the Frenchman Kylian Mbappe. “I will never forget how Mbappé changed the game in a few minutes without anyone’s help. Although he lost, this performance will be remembered forever,” said Khurram Siddiqui, a Geo News staffer.
Meanwhile, chairman Dr. Arif Alvi said it was an “exceptional World Cup” and also praised Mbappe, saying his “hat-trick was a pleasure to watch”.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif singled out the end of the match as “nail-biting.”
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also congratulated the Argentine winners on behalf of the Lyari people.
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi said it was a “fairy tale ending” for Messi, while Mbappe was “a legend in the making.”
