Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari does not join leading politicians, the international community, senior statesmen and notable Nigerians in mourning the passing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chairman General Professor George Obiozor.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma announced the death of Prof. George Obiozor on Wednesday, December 29.
For an internal statement, the Imo Governor said that Chairman General Ohanaeze Ndigbo died after a short illness and that his death was a great loss for Imo State, the southeast and the entire country.
And add to say that I am family to go announce the burial arrangement in due time.

Tributes have started arriving for the late Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chairman General, Prof. Jorge Obiozor.

The southeastern governors and previous leaders also expressed their condolences, as they describe di Ohaneae as a great man.
Former Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan says the death of Professor George Obiozor is a very good grief, describing his death as a great loss to the nation.
“Professor Obiozor is a great patriot whose love for the nation and its people knows no bounds,” he said.
Who will be Prof. George Obiozor?
Prof. George Obiozor na academia, diplomat, statesman, patriot and ogbonge Igbo leader.
Dem born 15 August 1942 to Awo-Omanma for Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, South East Nigeria.
The Di Igbo bin leader first attended Awo-Omamma Comprehensive Secondary School for Oru, for Oru-East Local Government Area (LGA) for di state.
Later he traveled outside the country to continue his studies.
The Di Ohanaeze leader attended the Institute for African Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, and the University of South Tacoma, Washington, USA, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1968.
Further studies go to Columbia University, New York, where I earned a Master of Philosophy for International Affairs and a Ph.D. in International Affairs.
He worked as a professor at the Pratt Institute in New York City from 1971 to 1975 and as an assistant professor of political science at the City University of New York, among others.
Obiozor returns to Nigeria in 1979.

I serve as the Director General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA).

In 1999, he became Nigeria’s ambassador to Israel, for four years, from 1999 to 2003.
He served as Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States from 2004 to 2008.
On Sunday, January 9, 2021, Obiozor was elected as the 10th President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, a socio-cultural group formed to serve the well-being of the Igbo nation.
During his time as president of Ohanaeze, he always called for the rise of a Nigerian president who would come from the south-east for the 2023 elections.
Obiozor participates in numerous conferences, delegations and missions to Nigeria and the United Nations. And he also writes and edits countless books and articles on foreign policy and international relations.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo is an Igbo socio-cultural organization in Nigeria.
This group represents the interests of all Igbo communities inside and outside of Nigeria.
Although the group is not a political party, one of dia’s main goals is to promote unity among dia members to effectively represent the political interests of the Igbo in Nigeria.
Igbo elites and intellectuals started Ohanaeze Igbo in 1934 to promote Igbo interests within what was then the Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria during the British Empire.
