Anwar said the governor made the decision during his visit to Goron-dutse Middle Correctional Center on Tuesday.

“You are Nigerians who deserved to be taken care of and that is why we are here today to celebrate with you this great Eid-el-Kabir, by forgiving some of you”, a- he declared.

“We are also here to see how you feel and share this moment of joy with you.

“We want those of you who have repented to promise us that you will not revert to your previous nefarious acts,” the governor said.

Anwar said some of the detainees were pardoned either due to health concerns or stayed longer than necessary.

He noted that others were there because they were unable to pay the fines imposed on them.

“The pardon exercise is in line with President Muhammadu Buhari‘s directive to decongest correctional centers across the country,” he said, citing Ganduje.

In his remarks, the comptroller of Kano Correctional Centers, Sulaiman T. Sulaiman, praised the governor for being human in his dealings with inmates.

“I have worked for 30 years in many states. I have never seen a state governor worry much about the fate of inmates in our correctional facilities as Governor Ganduje, ”he said.

Sulaiman thanked the governor for giving the detainees cattle and rams to celebrate Eid al Kabir.

Anwar said the governor gave each pardoned detainee 5,000 N as a ticket to their destination. (NAN) ()
