Thanking the Honorable Minister of Health, the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry thanked WHO for the invaluable support it provides to the health sector, in particular to the fight against the current Covid-19 epidemic.

“This partnership meeting is an important exercise aimed at identifying the health sector priorities to be supported by WHO for the biennium 2022-2023, and at developing a roadmap for its achievement.” These were the words of the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Mr. Muhammad Lamin Jaiteh at the official opening of the half-day meeting.

Mr. Jaiteh reminded participants to devote time and attention to this exercise and to identify priority areas that are achievable and have impact.

For his part, Dr Desta briefed participants on the governance and work of WHO as well as the role of the Secretariat in helping Member States achieve global health goals.

“This is your meeting, and as such, it is our duty as the Secretariat to facilitate today’s discussions on identifying priorities for the health sector for 2022-2023 on the basis of what WHO Member States, including The Gambia, have agreed to accomplish in the coming years, ”noted Dr Desta Tiruneh, WHO Representative in The Gambia.
