FRSC reacts to video on face-off between tricycle rider, corps patrol team

The Federal Highway Traffic Safety Corps, FRSC, has urged the public to ignore trending video that shows a rogue bicyclist and the corps patrol team clash.

The Corps Public Education Officer, CPEO, Bisi Kazeem, said this in a statement Monday in Abuja.

This is a misrepresentation as the event did not just happen. The video was recorded in Benin, on the Benin / Sapele highway on July 16, 2020.

“The video showed a wandering cyclist in a clash with the FRSC patrol team, after he was caught destroying a patrol vehicle on the road in Sapele, Benin, Edo.

“The Corps wishes to inform the general public that the incident did not happen simply as allegedly misrepresented by social media operators.

“The officer involved has been appropriately disciplined in accordance with the FRSC Regulations on Maintenance of Discipline at the request of Corps Marshal Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi and the outcome of the trial was made public on August 2, 2020.

“As an organization that does not tolerate indiscipline, the Corps has punished such personnel for being rude to the cyclist.

“This was to serve as a deterrent and force others to be tolerant, more professional and gentlemanly when handling traffic violators,” he said.

He warned the authors of such media propaganda to desist from heating up politics at this delicate moment in national development.

A magistrate court that met in Benin City on January 11, 2021 sentenced cyclist Adeshina Adeyemo to three months in prison for attacking patrol officers and damaging his vehicle.

Mr. Adeyemo convicted of conduct that may cause a breach of public order and willful harm.
