FRSC encourages use of bicycles in Sokoto

By Habibu Harisu

Sokoto State, in collaboration with the FRSC, launched an information campaign on the increased use of cycling to promote environmental safety.

FRSC spokesman in Sokoto State, Mr. Salisu Muhammad-Tureta, told the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Sokoto on Thursday that the campaign had been carried out in schools, markets and other institutions to educate citizens.

He said the increased use of bicycles would also help relieve road congestion, reduce carbon emissions and improve the healthy lives of cyclists.

“The essence of the program is to raise awareness of the importance of using a non-motorized mode of transportation,” he added.

He praised the commitment of the State Health and Youth and Sports Commissioners, Dr Ali Inname and Mr Bashir Gorau, respectively, to the campaign.

Muhammad-Tureta also urged residents of Sokoto state to soak up the use of bicycles in the state capital and local government areas. (NAA)
