Former President Jimmy Carter Resting Comfortably at Home with Hospice Care
Earlier this year, Former President Jimmy Carter announced that he would receive in-home hospice care. The announcement came without any specific information about what health conditions it was related to. Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, spoke to reporters this week at an event honoring his grandfather in Georgia, saying that the former president and first lady are resting comfortably at home.
Carter’s decision to receive hospice care came after multiple falls and bouts with cancer in recent years. He’s set to be 99 years old in October, and as his grandson stated, he and his wife are coming to the end. “They’re together and they’ve been together for 70-plus years,” said Jason Carter. “But right now, it’s sort of the perfect way for them to spend these last days – together at home in Plains.”
The event honoring Jimmy Carter featured various dignitaries, including Andrew Young who served as his UN Ambassador. Despite his health issues, Jimmy Carter has remained an important figure in public life and a respected voice on various issues. His hospice care is a reminder that even those who have accomplished so much are not immune to the challenges of aging and illness.
